Alfonso follows in the footsteps of his great grandmother, who was a renowned Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine in wartime China, during Mao’s dictatorship. She was imprisoned for being educated, and was ordered to a death sentence which was timely omitted when Mao’s cronies fell ill. Her life was spared after successfully treating the illnesses that plagued the regime’s higher ranks.
During his formative years in the Philippines, Alfonso grew to love the ocean. Swimming and diving, whilst holding one breath, provided leisure and an escape from city life. Later, an abrupt move to Canada led Alfonso deeper into nature, where he observed the laws that govern both our bodies and our world.
Alfonso eventually found himself in emergency medicine as a ski patroller, significantly shaping his comprehension of Western medical practices, while also enriching his understanding of acute care and patient management. This experience, combined with the philosophical and therapeutic principles of TCM, allow him to offer a balanced, integrative approach to healing—one that is grounded in scientific evidence while remaining attuned to the natural.
Alfonso graduated with a Diploma of Acupuncture from Tzu Chi International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He lives in Vancouver, BC and is a devoted surfer, snowboarder and freediver.
